Esomar has set up a group to create AI guidance.
Netherlands – Industry body Esomar has set up a working group to address the use of artificial intelligence in the areas of research,
insights and analytics.
The group, which includes Esomar board members, staff and industry representatives, aims to educate, raise awareness and develop
guidance on the use of AI in the industry.
The body will also conduct research, publish reports and collaborate with other individuals and associations on AI-related issues.
Esomar said it welcomes any interested parties to join.
“The scale and speed of AI, and its varying impact on different teams, countries and research methods, makes it difficult for any one group to manage,”
said Ray Poynter, chairman of Esomar.
“Our AI Working Group aims to bring together as many diverse teams as possible to foster shared learning and make significant progress on the standards
and guidance that the global information industry so desperately needs.”
Since OpenAI launched its ChatGPT tool late last year, many major research companies have launched services based on generative AI.
The Information Commissioner’s Office has warned that organisations developing AI that generates data should consider their data
protection obligations from the outset.
“The explosion of AI is bringing with it many opportunities, but also many questions, many of which MRS is working to address,”
said Jane Frost, CEO of MRS. MRS has been working with the ICO on issues raised by the use of AI in research and has contributed to
government consultations on AI regulation.
“In addition, the MRS mentorship programme and bespoke training will be launched shortly, and a major new partnership between
the MRS Delphi Group and the MRS Data Analytics Committee is expected to launch in October.”
